🥪 Your IT org needs AI. First steps.

Good morning, 🚀 it was a week of your broke friends who were holding BTC and ETH since 2016 looking down on you in a brief moment of glory. And it was also a week of some incredible advances in AI: Devin - the first (as the creator claims) AGI developer ai (spoiler: we tested it, it’s good, but not for everything).

But most incredibly, we (humans) are seriously putting in the effort to decode what the animals are saying.

Soon, you could be buying a subscription from them to let your kids keep talking to their pet lizard Timmy!

In this newsletter, you can count on receiving only the good news.
So let’s go!

ALEX’S TAKE
Your IT org needs AI! First steps?

If you are one of those IT leaders who’s always curious, who’s always looking out for new tech and ways to adopt it in your org, this video is for you.
Alex is going to lay out a 5-step plan for an enterprise IT leader who wants to start adopting AI in their organization. You don’t wanna miss this.

NEXT IN AI
Google screwed up!

It’s not often that we get a chance to really make fun of a screw up of this scale. Google’s Gemini publicly available AI provided such an opportunity 2 weeks ago.

Users noticed the model was trying to be inclusive and diverse where it had to factual and on point. It also seemed like it had extreme difficulty generating Caucasian characters. Bay Area tech culture at its best.

User asked Google’s Gemini Ai generate a 1943 soldier

• Google acknowledged the issues with a statement, highlighting the importance of diversity but saying it ‘missed the mark’.

The incident sparked broader discussion over bias and safety in AI models. Ethical balance is going to be a very difficult task for AI companies, and this situation highlights why many believe open, less restrictive models are imperative.

As AI creates more of the world’s content, its ability to shape world views grows — putting even more importance on models remaining as impartial and neutral as possible.

Let alone the issue of enterprises using LLMs as their customer support and marketing aids.

FUTURE OF TECH
Graphene breakthrough at last!

Researchers at Georgia Tech have developed the world's first functional semiconductor made from graphene. This breakthrough could dramatically change the electronics game. Unlike traditional silicon-based electronics that are reaching their performance limits, graphene offers a path to faster, more efficient devices.

what if we never had to charge our phones again!

The key achievement here is giving graphene a "band gap", which is essential for creating semiconductors that can switch on and off. Before this discovery, graphene's constant conductivity made it unsuitable for such applications. Now, with a band gap, graphene can be used in a wide range of electronic devices, potentially revolutionizing how we build and use them.

This innovation means we might see electronics that operate faster and generate less heat—a big win for everything from smartphones to computers. Plus, this new type of semiconductor is a step towards quantum computing, a future where computers could solve complex problems far quicker than today's best machines.

The implications are huge: longer-lasting batteries, quicker data processing, and even advancements in quantum computing could all be within reach. The Georgia Tech team's work opens up exciting possibilities for the next generation of electronics, making this a pivotal moment in the tech world.

📚THIS WEEK’S READ
"Scaling People" by Claire Hughes Johnson is not a deep-dive into IT strategy. But it’s super valuable for any Technology leader, especially in Enterprise, because it equips you with tactics for building high-performing teams, crafting a scalable organizational structure, and fostering a culture of clear communication.

🎧THIS WEEK’S TUNE
Find a cosy cafe, order a cup of coffee, turn away from the crowds, look outside into the world and press play. You’re in for a treat as two absolutely polar artists mix up thanks for DJ Rozroz’s magic: minor and major notes taste like salted caramel ice cream on a Sunday afternoon. Enjoy! 👇

FUTURE OF HEALTH
We are all made of plastic now

Yes, it’s true: drinking from plastic bottles may not be as innocuous as it seems. Recent research underscores a concerning reality: these containers shed microplastics into the water we consume, potentially in the millions per liter!

These minute particles, including polyethylene terephthalate from the bottles and polyamide from filters, raise significant health and environmental concerns.

The prevalence of microplastics in bottled water signals a broader environmental issue, stretching beyond individual health risks to encompass widespread ecological impacts. As these particles infiltrate various ecosystems, understanding their full implications becomes crucial for future research. But it’s already clear that Sashimi you ate last night at your favorite Sushi Place most likely made you as plastic as your kid’s toys.

We need to find a temporary solution since we don’t really understand how bad thing will get for us as we age. Alternatives to bottled water, such as using stainless steel or glass containers, not only reduce plastic waste but also minimize personal exposure to microplastics. Making this switch represents a small but powerful step toward mitigating both health risks and environmental damage caused by plastic pollution.

Oh, here’s a business idea that will fly in Southern California - water delivery, but in glass bottles. Just ride the wave of fear (possibly real), make a buck and make the world a better place! Or dig a well..
